Cats love long strings. Cats love catnip. Brainstorm. What would happen if you put the two together? Result: The Pole Kat Pole. And Edward Lusht of Owego, N.Y. doesn't have to say, "Gee, I wish I thought of that." He did. Lusht's brainstorm came last Christmas while he was watching television and tinkering with a fishing rod purchased for his daughter. Cat toys from the cat's Christmas stocking happened to be scattered about. "The cat was laying there: the toy was laying there, I just reached down and put the mouse (catnip mouse) on the line," he says. "She (the cat) went crazy. She kept me going for about three hours" He mentioned the event to three fishing buddies who decided to help Lusht market the toy. A logo of a cat wearing a fishing hat came next, followed this past May, by an advertisement placed in Cat Fancy, a magazine geared to cat lovers. Currently, the cat toy sells for $21.95. At this writing over 350 Pole Kat Poles have been sold. "Saudi Arabia is the farthest we've sent one." Lusht says. |
